My optometrist prescribed wet hot compresses twice a day for blepharitis and meibomitis. I used to use a washcloth and warm tap water, but it's pretty dirty, the washcloth cools down too quickly, and hunching over the sink gives me back pain, so I've tried that. It's insanely soft and comfortable. An elastic band keeps it in place. It is filled with flaxseed, so there are no heating elements going through the mask itself, which can pose a burn hazard. Heat is naturally transferred to the seeds from a small heating element at one end of the mask. There are no hotspots. When I want moist warmth, I moisten cotton or cloth pads and apply them to my closed eyelids under the mask. The mask keeps them in place and warm. I love the fact that it has three temperature settings and shuts itself off so it doesn't overheat in any of the settings. I expect a much higher price for these features and quality construction. I just want it to get hotter on the highest settings. I'm not sure if it gets hot enough to melt those wax plugs in the meibomian glands, which of course is the main idea behind warm compresses. However, they are very soothing and are great for temporarily relieving dry eyes. When my eyes get overly dry and tired, this mask makes them feel 100% better.
