We bought three of these for kayaking. I used them on a trip and was very disappointed in them. Two of our kayaks capsized in the rough water and the two backpacks on those kayaks were submerged in the water for several minutes. None of them kept the contents dry. They didn't spill a lot, but enough to get the contents quite wet. Meanwhile, not a single drop of water escaped from any of the cheap WalMart drybags on any of the capsized kayaks. I would make money just by buying extra cheap dry bags and not having to sleep on wet sheets. The third backpack on the kayak that didn't tip over but sat in heavy rain for most of the day didn't let water through. While these backpacks are definitely waterproof, they are NOT waterproof.
