Review on Rugged Handheld GPS ๐Ÿงญ Navigator - Garmin eTrex 22x by Darrell Beecher

Decades of engineering and interface

I purchased the ETREX 22x in July 2020 for two major hikes in California. Unfortunately, the device is more trouble than it's worth. It's clunky, heavy, always on. The screen is difficult to read (very dim) and has a joystick reminiscent of a 1990's Blackberry phone. It's not at all intuitive with dozens of screens of useless functions you thumb through to get to the vital information you really want and need. It wasn't cheap either; ($200+). I had high expectations for the price, but it's "low tech". My wife's iPhone watch worked ten times faster, measured distance and altitude more accurately and didn't distract us from the walk. This is where you need to stop and focus to get a reading. Very annoying. I will not buy Garmin again. You bribed me with your reputation. But it seems that they are relying too much on their past reputation and are not keeping up with the times.
