Much better than putty and sanding
A bit pricey but much easier to use than putty and sanding. Make sure any parts of the hole you want to cover are below the level of the surrounding drywall. (I cropped the paper from an area slightly larger than the hole.) The repair isn't perfect, but it's very close (better than I could have done otherwise) - and for a fraction of the effort compared to the old method.
