After being unable to pinch the AC drain pipe with a shop vacuum, I connected this device to the drain pipe external outlet. I used the suction side of the pump to create a vacuum in the tube to pull the dirt out. Following the advice of other reviewers, I quickly inflated the device for about 10 seconds and waited. After 20 or 30 seconds of waiting (and muscle recovery) I pumped again and eventually dirt and dirty water came out of the pump outlet. Success! I will now periodically run bleach or other cleaning solution through the pipe to prevent algae from growing again.
