Facilitate note-taking and studying

When I was buying notebooks for my first year of graduate school, I wandered into the area of the campus bookstore reserved for the law school students. There I found notebooks like these with extra wide margins. I picked up one or two and found that they facilitated better note-taking and studying. As I took notes, I could jot comments in the extra wide margins or draw arrows to bring notes from separate sections together. Later, when I was reviewing my notes, I could insert a page reference to a section of my textbook. I ended up using them throughout graduate school and, when my son started college, remembered them and bought these for him to use. They’re not cheap but, used well, they’ll facilitate note-taking and studying.
