Not sealed. If you know that your container will always be 100% straight and will only move from one position on the counter to one position in the fridge, it will work. If your container is slightly tipped over, expect it to spill, even if it's a thick liquid (I bought these for making kefir). Also, don't try to tighten the caps so they don't leak. you will break Don't even try to screw them in with normal torque. They will break - like a complete crack down the center of the lid. I use them to make kefir, so they're hardly suitable for that. I just make sure I don't screw them all the way down so the container never tips over. But 2 of the big ones broke right down the middle.
