Review on ACDelco CF188 Original Equipment Filter by Aaron Ethridge

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great replacement! Be careful when replacing.

I have a 2014 Silverado High Country with less than 30,000 miles on it. From time to time I could smell musty air when it was humid outside. I thought it would be worth checking and replacing the cabin filter. In doing so I discovered that at some point in the past the mouse decided to build a nest on my filter. Removing the original was easy enough. Four Torx T15 screws on the lower glove box. Two on the top and two on the bottom. It should pop out with minimal effort. After removing the glove box, a black honeycomb cover appears over the filter itself. There are two latches on the top that you slide out and the lid comes off easily. *****THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART***** Before you pull out the filter, find a thin piece of hard cardboard to hold the filter in place. its shape. Cut out a piece slightly longer and wider than the filter and tuck it UNDER the old filter. The reason is that when you pull out the old filter, any leaves or other dirt that may be lying on it fall onto the cardboard and not into the fan, as I have experienced. You can then vacuum the dirt off the top of the box to keep it from falling off. Once you followed the instructions above, assembly was easy. Insert the new filter with the air direction arrow down, reinstall the filter cover, reinstall the glove box and reinstall the 4 Torx T15 screws. If you haven't followed the instructions, you'll either have to put your hand in the filter slot and remove the dirt. (much luck). Or you may need to remove the protective plate under the fan assembly (four 7mm hex head screws) and unscrew the three Torx T15 screws from the fan motor. You can pull out the fan, remove debris, and then reassemble it in reverse order. Incidentally, one of the four 7 mm hexagonal screws on the base plate is quite difficult to unscrew. It's on the far right next to the firewall. Putting that screw back is even worse.
