Haven't tried them in the water yet, I bought them to wake up to. I only wore them around the house. They have no lining so I suggest wearing bikini bottoms. So you should increase the size. You may want to choose a different size just because they run small. I'm a size 10 and I have an XL but I usually get a large. Everyone said to take a size up but I needed 2 sizes up! They go with underwear, but a bathing suit looks even tighter. It sits loose on the hips, doesn't dig in and has a slight flair. But I think the range of female parts is too narrow. Which will look even worse with a bathing suit. If you're worried about the waist being tight, the band is really loose, it won't give you a muffin top! The strap also has a drawstring so you can make sure it fits if you order too big.
