I had the original red sidekick and loved it for over a decade when Sizzix introduced their updated version which does not require a thin die adapter and can be used with small/narrow dies, I knew I had one needed. Only deterrent is the $40 price tag. A few months later I discovered that Amazon was offering a new white and gray version in a starter kit for $19.65 plus free shipping, Yahoo! I immediately bought one for myself and the other as a gift. I love it as much as "old red". At $20 it's worth every penny. Note: The Sidekick is a quality product and its small size is a definite plus, but none of these selling points make it worth $40. If you're willing to spend that much on a manual die cutter, save a little more and invest in a bigger machine. At $70-$80, you get more bang for your buck with a larger machine.
