Possibly the best dog "accessories" we've ever bought! We have had the Petmaker Puppy Potty Trainer for a little over a month now and have found it absolutely invaluable for our 11 pound miniature poodle. We bought this potty unlike many other potties because it fits in a 48 inch crate and still leaves room for a dog bed and water bowl. When we go we can leave our dog in the cage and not worry about it forcing them to keep them for too long. also had an issue with our dog getting up in the middle of the night and browsing the carpet in the living room and this completely solved that issue. Put her in a box and then physically block her with your body (instead of closing the door) so she doesn't feel trapped. The first few times she walked around the box in embarrassment, nudged us to get out and finally to relieve herself on the potty and we praised and petted her every time she used the potty. At first she really did NOT want to use the potty and only used it because she was stuck and had no other option, so we spent a lot of time sitting in front of the crate waiting for her to go (requires patience!) , but the waiting time got shorter each time. After we did this at night for two weeks (we took her out during the day) she started using the potty when she had to, but she didn't really use it unless we put her in and waited for her went. It's been a month now and she only uses the potty when she has to and NO accidents around the house! USE/CLEANING The Petmaker's potty has an artificial grass layer that sits on a raised plastic drain pan that both fit into the large black pan. The grass and drainage pan don't "lock" and can slide when pushed, but that wasn't a problem for our 11 pound dog. We put the pot under the drip tray, which makes cleaning MUCH easier. Our dog uses the potty several times a week and we haven't had any odor issues. We change the pads every 1-2 days and then clean the entire pot in the bucket with a diluted bleach solution about once a week. Our dog showed no interest in chewing grass or mat, but overall he doesn't enjoy chewing. BENEFITS: Fits a 48" cage with enough room for a dog bed. Big enough for an 11 year old. - Pat dog to sniff/circle/find the "right" spot - Artificial grass layer lifts and drains quickly - Doesn't stay wet after use - No odor problems using pots + cleaning once a week - No more spills or misses (compared to to pots alone) - NO ACCIDENTS IN THE HOUSE! CONS - Grass "shed" - we still find occasional strands throughout the house - grass takes a while to dry after cleaning - we can buy a second one to use while the first one dries - the bottom shell is flat - if you don't use pads it's easy to spill urine when you empty it
