When I taught television and film, we taught students to stick to one type of tape. Pick one and stick with it or you risk damaging (or cleaning) mechanics. In fact, you lose the opportunity to check the device if it is found that you change the band intended for the device. We used Panasonic tape exclusively and I have used it for many years with no problems. This particular tape contains (or had) more silver oxide than other tapes and offers the highest quality of signal resolution. You can easily go from a lower tier Panasonic to a higher tier, but for movies that require premium tape I've always used the DV master.
