Small sandwiches are sufficient, but they are not airtight. I suppose if it's just a sandwich you'll be fine, but I took a star off because they leak a lot in the corners. So if you just have orange slices, tomatoes or anything else that could leak liquid, it will leak. Now I bought them mainly for sandwiches but I would love to bring something like tomatoes and cucumbers cucumber or fruit in the second as they are 3 and small something to add to your lunch but I wouldn't risk too much spill brine juice everywhere. I'm keeping them because they're still useful and a good price, but you can't say they're airtight.
