Not exactly for Hayes 9th, but there's a trick

Good -- Good syringes, reliable fittings, extra O-rings, pads, helped me. there is no fitting to screw into the Hayes 9 lever reservoir. The Hayes 9 on my old FSB is always inflated by the spring. Since priming with two syringes is a bit tricky if not messy, I've always had the shop do it. However, this is not really necessary. With a good syringe and a good enough fit, simply rotating the brake lever and handlebars so the reservoir lever bleed screw is as high as possible will repeatedly pump and bleed fluid into the reservoir, forcing air back into the syringe. .The downside to this kit is that it doesn't actually have a threaded lever reservoir fitting for the Hayes 9. However, the included "Hayes" fitting could be pressed firmly against the reservoir opening with one hand while pumping brake fluid with others. This seals well enough to allow liquid to enter the reservoir and then force the air back into the syringe. And since the syringe tube has an internal diameter large enough to allow bubbles to rise to the top of the syringe, the process could be repeated in situ until there were no more bubbles. Five minutes of work and the brakes are like new. The downside here is that this can't be used to completely bleed piston to lever (unless I'm leaking brake fluid all over the place) if I ever decide to change the fluid.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • Not everything fits
