Review on ⚡ 6 Outlet Extension Cord Strip Surge Protector with Long Metal Power Strip, 6FT Heavy Duty Power Strip, 300J Surge Protector, 120V 15A 60Hz 1800W by Sangmin Barrett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

5/5 as an extension but reviews show it's a poor surge protector - wouldn't trust the protector

If it was only sold as an extension I'd probably give it 5 stars. It wouldn't be ideal given its basic design and lack of features like USB ports, but it can handle 1800W, has sockets that face outwards rather than downwards, which tends to make it a bit easier to actually use all the available slots . Mounting holes on the back, doesn't have a large plug so it won't block a second outlet on the wall, and has a durable aluminum body. In general I like this extension. However, it is not only sold as an extension cord, but also as a surge protector. This is an issue due to the meager level of protection this device offers. I'm afraid that people will see the word "surge protector" and think that this device protects against surges. I'm not an expert on such things, but if you look at the two raw numbers and do a little internet searching, you'll see that this device isn't what people typically recommend when it comes to Joules and clamping voltage. This device only provides 300 joules of protection. Most recommendations recommend 1000-2000 for most devices and 3000+ for home theater devices. Also, this one has a clamping voltage of 600V. Most recommendations are 300-400V. The lower the number, the better. Finally, when it comes to surge protectors, you often see a guarantee that all devices will be replaced up to a certain dollar amount if they become damaged when properly connected to this protective device. While I'm skeptical that anyone will actually pay for them, that's all. No such guarantee is given here. So I suggest if you're buying this think about a power strip, an outlet extender, rather than a surge protector, which protects your devices in the event of a power surge. .
