GVS SPR644 vs. 3M 6200 with 3M 604 valve filter

[2021 /09 /03] This is my first impression of this elastomeric respirator. I also have a 3M 6200 (P100) with a 3M 604 valved filter. I will compare the GVS model to a 3M 6200 with a valved filter as both are reusable elastomeric respirators that offer source control to others before to protect the wearer from exhaling. Weight: The winner is 3m, but not by much. It weighs 4.4 ounces versus 4.8 ounces for the GVS. Breathability: definitely 3M. Breathing resistance in hot water is worse, especially when exhaling. The main reason for using an elastomeric respirator instead of a disposable N95 is breathing resistance. I'd rather carry a disposable N95 than a GVS. Comfort: 3 meters in a landslide. GVS is stiff and doesn't quite fit my face. I think GVS is for someone with a squarer face. I have a flatter face. 3 meters seems much softer. Audibility: GVS. His voice is cleaner compared to 3m. In fact, I would consider using it if I needed to communicate regularly. I would not try to communicate with 3m. Price: $30 GVS. 3m is cheaper if you only need a respirator and a P100 filter. If you need a 3M 604 valve filter then it's going to be expensive. I really haven't found a place to buy a valve filter individually without having to pay exorbitant shipping costs or buy in bulk. If you could buy it individually for reasonable shipping costs it would be about the same price. Conclusion: I would use the 3M 6200 valve filter. Inhaling (especially exhaling) is easier and more comfortable. If you need to talk to others, get GVS. I would even do without the hot water altogether. I think its "breathing characteristics" aren't as good as some non-vented disposable N95 respirators.

Pros
  • Extremely light and compact respirators (4.5 oz) with unique low-profile filters that adapt to the contours of your face and offer the user a wide field of vision
Cons
  • Doubtful
