Review on πŸ”₯ VIVOHOME MIG Welder 130 Flux Core Wire: Portable, Automatic Feed Welding Machine – No Gas, DIY Home Welder with Free Mask, 110V, Black by Eric Garron

Decent cheap welder, manual HORRIBLE

Like most Chinese junk, the manual is virtually useless and almost incoherent. You have to try a lot to make this work the way you want it to. The machine has two switches and one button, which unfortunately are linked together. The switches control the output voltage, but they ALSO affect the wire feed speed. The knob ALSO controls the wire feed speed. The manual calls this "find setting" which is NOT true. For example, the Max/2 setting increases the wire feed speed from 180 to 615 inches per minute. It's hardly "tweaking". Unfortunately, nothing is documented on what the output voltage of the switches is, and the fact that they also affect wire speed is problematic when setting up. To make it easier, here's what you need to do. 1) Install the stopwatch app on your phone, set the machine to 0 for wire feed and min/1 for voltage. 2) Pull the trigger while starting the timer on the stopwatch. , and hold the shutter button down for 6 seconds. 3) Turn off the machine and measure the length of wire coming out of the nozzle. Multiply it by 10 and you will get the wire feed for that combination in inches/minutes 4) Make a table and record the result 5) Rewind the wire, turn the knob by 1 and repeat the test for each wire feed value until you reach 106) now toggle the switches to Max 1 and test again, then do Min 2 and Max 2. You now have wire feed for each wire feed switch, min/max and 1/2 combination. As you continue to weld, search the internet for the recommended starting wire feed point for the thickness of the weld you are making. For example, for .030" wire with .125 (1/8") filler, my chart shows 250 ipm. (Check out the YouTube channel called "weldingtipsandtricks". This guy has a website with a table of wire diameter, gauge, and recommended feed speed). Now a problem arises. There are 4 different possible settings for 250 ipm. On my particular machine I could use (format - wire speed - min/max - 1/2) 4 - min - 13 - max - 13 - min - 22 - max - 2 At the very least, a chart requires most of the guesswork outside of that. They could easily improve this machine if they removed the wire feed from speed change with the min/max/1/2 switches and left it for voltage change only. Or, better yet, just flip the rotary switch from 1 to 4 for voltage and wire feed from 1 to 10. I may just have to take this machine apart to see if I can disable the switches to change the wire feed.

Pros
  • Welders and supplies
Cons
  • Slightly dented
