Review on SKYLARK SFSQ-LFH-WH: White Slide Fan Speed and Light Control - Superior Quality, Pack of 1 by Mike Davis

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The switch allows full control of BOTH fans (3 speeds) and the light kit (on/off)

Problem: Need to add a 'light kit' to an existing Hunter ceiling fan but the wall switch only controls the BLOWER , not the LIGHT. If I were to use my existing 3 speed wall switch to control the fan, the LIGHT would stay on unless I use the PULL STRING that comes with the lighting kit. Solution (First: Turn off the power at the switchboard): 1.) Install the Westinghouse lighting kit for my existing Hunter fan using the two "lighting kit" wires that were already in the fan housing. 2.) Bought a Lutron "Slide-To-Off Fan Speed Control with On/Off Light" 3 wall switches. ) Removed the existing fan slide plate switch and unscrewed the existing outlet switch that was in the 2 gang box to access all the wires. 4.) Identify and label the wires going to the fan. Here I noticed that the black wire that came with the red wire that powered the fan was connected directly to the HOT line side (black) wire. I untwisted this black wire (Light Kit-Load) to make it available for the new switch. Tightening Electric Nuts. The directions are very clear as to which wire color controls the fan and lights, as well as which wire is ground (green) and which wire is hot (black). 6.) Install the new switch back into the 2-gang box (using the screws provided), reattach the wall plate and switch it back on. I now have full 3 speed fan control and light on/off control with a wall switch. Fan control feels smooth and it's easy to find each speed (OFF, Low, Medium, High). The light switch (although small) easily controls the on/off function of the new fan light kit. I had no trouble fitting the new switch into my 2 speed can (there was plenty of room for wiring and nuts). TOOLS REQUIRED: Multimeter to ensure all power is removed from the switch panel Flat head screwdriver for removing screws from wall plate Phillips screwdriver for removing/installing switches Wire cutters/wire strippers to ensure a clean cut of connections to existing wiring in the junction box.
