Worked great with my Gopro Hero 4 Black until then.

Works perfectly with my Gopro Hero 4 Black, Lightspeed Zulu 3 headsets (instructor uses DC headsets) in Cessna 152. . The first time, a day after the flight, when I wanted to disconnect it from the GoPro, I found that the male end of the cable that connects directly to the GoPro was still connected to the GoPro, but the surrounding cable was itself was deformed or bent as if someone tried to put pressure on the cable when connected to the GoPro. I found it very odd as there was no one on the plane but me and I always make sure to clean it up properly when I'm done with it and protect the ends. I attributed it to something that I had to do unconsciously. But deep down I was wondering maybe the small power supply I use to power the Go Pro was somehow giving out too much current and possibly overheating the pin end, causing the plastic to melt. I didn't really find that plausible though, as I've charged my GoPro off the plane on other occasions using regular cables via an external battery. So I figured it was my fault so I went out and bought a new pair of these. precise cables. I've been using them for several weeks now, at least ten times, maybe 1.5 hours each time. And when I went to unplug the cable after today's flight, I found that the same thing happened to these as to the first set of cables. I immediately touched the plug to make sure it was hot, but it wasn't. Now I've come to the conclusion that over time the weight of the cable itself (which hangs from the top bulkhead of the cockpit I have my GoPro in) has caused the pin end to detach from the cable itself. In other words, imagine a cable dangling from a GoPro and the stress from the cable's weight over time is probably the equivalent of someone pulling on the cable from underneath. I finally came to the conclusion that the type of cable used is poor quality, similar to some fake phone charger cables that start to warp after a while. This was a real disappointment as I have bought these cables twice. But certainly not the third time. The attached picture is what I did, after trying to straighten the pin end to align it (eventually I actually made it worse) so that's not it. At first glance it looks just as bad as shown here, but bad enough that I discovered that no audio/video was recorded from the flight. Now you need to find someone else's 10ft cable. Very disappointing.

Pros
  • USB power connector included
Cons
  • Not trendy
