Review on πŸ’‘ Tripp Lite SS3612 Gray 12 Outlet Power Strip with Surge Protection - 15ft. Cord, Metal Construction, 36 in. Length by Tsar Smithlin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfect solution to get rid of multiple floor covers for my audio gear rack.

I decided to completely rewire my audio equipment and get rid of floor standing surge protectors. I have a 6 shelf open audio rack that I bought from Revain over 10 years ago. The original length of this extension was too long as the top shelf overhung the shelf on all four sides. It was very easy to cut this strip to the right length. Unscrew the two end caps, gently pry off the backing with a hammer, cut the metal top off with a hacksaw, cut the wires that connect the jacks to, remove the jacks (I removed two jacks) , cut off the backing , carefully put it back in place with a hammer and reattach the two end caps with the screws. I also shortened the 15 foot power cord to about 3 feet. I plugged it into the outlet and used a multimeter to make sure I didn't short the internal wiring to the metal case. I then attached the extension to the back of my audio stand using the supplied mounting clips. No one will ever know that I shorted out the metal strip and power cord because it looks like it came from the factory that way.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Requires an outlet
