Review on πŸŒ€ WEN 6510T Spindle Sander with Oscillating Functionality by Anthony Shields

Pleasantly Surprised

I can't remember the last time I was so pleased with the latest power tool in its class. I was very cautious about buying this instrument. As I progressed in my passion for woodworking, I became frustrated with cheap, inexpensive consumer power tools. They often look like the "real thing" in the store. But then you bring them home, put them to work, and realize what crappy compromises you had to make to get that low price. This WHO is perhaps the exception that proves the rule for me. The fit and finish are acceptable, it works very well, and the trade-offs are obvious and appropriate to my work. The table is cast iron (or some type of steel) rather than melamine like another model I tested. The finish is a little rough - it's not smooth milled glass. Just roughly sanded with high grit. I'm assuming you're not paying enough for the extra finishing steps at this price point. The table seems flat and big enough for my work. A layer of wax paste will smooth it out. This is not shown in the pictures, but my example included a spindle nut wrench. It's nice. The actual grinding process is efficient. The power is sufficient for my application (hardwood band saw box grinding). I didn't stall it or get stuck, although I let the tool do the work for me. The dust extraction is very efficient. I have a flimsy dust collector but it still eats up 99% of the dust that comes out of this machine. I am very happy with it. Dust extraction is often an inefficient afterthought on cheap grinders. It runs pretty quiet and doesn't vibrate. With the right grit of sandpaper, I can effectively go from quick stock removal to final sanding. noise in front. This Sander howls. Wear earplugs. It would be nice if they had a place to store extra pucks. I suppose you can put them back on the spindle when you're done, but it would be nice to have a drawer in the base for them - everything else has one, including the wrench. Verdict: From what I've seen, you have to pay four times as much to get more. For hobbyist or light professional use I don't see this as a disappointment.
