I was trying to use this to connect a very old hard drive to a slightly older Mac laptop, but encountered the error shown in the attached image. I clicked close; The external drive was never mounted, even with Disk Utility and Terminal Tactics. The adapter itself seems fine. Plug and port match well with corresponding connectors. I've also tried using this adapter along with a USB-C adapter to connect this old external hard drive to the latest Mac Powerbook, but it doesn't even give an error message. Nothing shows up in Disk Utility either - the drive just never shows up. The external drive *really* fits my old Mac Powerbook G3, so I know the drive is fine. If you attempt this, be aware that there is no guarantee that a physical connection will result in a network connection.
