Doesn't stay open to catch anything

I forgot to remove my old "catcher" when I traded in my old car so I ordered this one which looked just like it. It arrived with the sides pressed together so nothing could snag it. I've tried placing other items in and between the pages to keep it open, but it's so firm and flat that it still won't stay open. I would not recommend this product.
