My dog was very shy when I rescued him a year and a half ago. He didn't have much of a backstory, but it was evident that he had been verbally and possibly physically abused. He got used to me quickly, but I had to be very sensitive when training and making corrections. This training collar was just what we needed. With a beep/vibration/shock I can choose which option is best for the time and place. I use the beep to remind him to stay focused or to find quick fixes. If he doesn't respond to the beep, I choose the shock option. My dog is 17 pounds so I only have to shock on level 5 to get his attention without squeaking or scaring him. He took root quickly, so now I rarely have to shock him. A beep catches his attention and he straightens up.
