Review on 🏠 K&H Outdoor Heated Kitty House Cat Shelter 19 X 22 X 17 Inches - Heated/Unheated Option by Misty Wood

Revainrating 1 out of 5

I hope my review helps anyone looking to buy an outside shelter!

I don't usually like to write negative reviews, but for products that cost a lot of money I want to leave my review for someone else to read before rating the product(s). I have purchased this K&H Outdoor Heated Home on Revain in Olive and a K&H Outdoor Heated Home on Chewy in Barn print. They were both about the same price ($70 to $75 when I bought them). ). Here in Minnesota we are experiencing incredibly dangerously low temperatures (especially with cold winds!) and I needed an extra cat shelter ASAP. In the old days, all we needed was a Styrofoam house with hay and a heat lamp hanging over the cat's bed. When I noticed frostbite on one of the cats, I immediately went in search of other outdoor shelters. I didn't have much time to find a heated shelter in nearby shops, so I placed an order with Revane and Chewie to see which shelter would arrive first. .Revain arrived a day earlier than Chewy so I installed and tested it at home. Gathering was very easy! The instructions said it could take up to 30 minutes to "warm up," so I set a timer and noticed absolutely no difference. After waiting 30 minutes, I tried it again at other sockets. The instructions state that after the initial warm up the bed will be cooler to the touch and place an insulating object over the bed, wait a few minutes and then feel the "warmth" the cats experience to keep the warmth testing . This home produces NO HEAT for you and I am incredibly disappointed. I was really hoping for the promise "warm to a cozy, pet-friendly temperature even in the coldest weather". Although it does NOT work, I still keep it as a windbreak. Because with a cold -36Β°F wind, you want at least something to block that breeze. Our garage door is approximately 30cm high to allow cats to come and go as they please. Even though the garage is only a foot higher, it's still drafty. Upon entering, the cat cam notifies me of any movement and begins recording for live viewing and later viewing. The night I took refuge at Revane's, I saw on the cat cam that one of the cats was actually using it! This is enough for me to keep my house and refuse the return/exchange. Chewy House arrived the next day. As the stash is the same brand I wasn't thrilled with the installation and didn't expect it to work. I did and really noticed "warmth". With this bed I really experienced a self-regulating temperature. This is nothing but a crazy heating pad that I use this time of year. For those who expect it to get really "hot," just be aware that a human heating pad will be ridiculously hot and unbearable for a cat to sleep on. . . You want a stable, consistent temperature so your cat enjoys it and stays warm, not overheated. I was sure the Chewy open house would be popular and preferred over the Revain house, so I installed it and waited for the cat cam to alert me. Of course, all the cats are gathered in the outdoor house Chewie bought! I was so happy to know that they appreciate it and use it every night! Now I don't know if that means anything, but the K&H open plan heated house purchased by Revain arrived in an unmarked box. The K&H Open Heated House purchased from Chewy was shipped in its factory packaging. Overall I recommend this product if you have a working one! I'd say take it to Chewie. It only took an extra day to arrive and was in the same price range as the Revain. Additional Notes: This home is low wattage and can easily share a common outlet. I have what I call an "outlet multiplier," and I share an outlet with other essentials. I've hooked up thermal bowls to keep food and water warm, an outdoor heated shelter, an outdoor freezer, a heat lamp, and there's still extra power left!
