It's not cheap (I haven't done my own pricing research) but my goodness they work well. The ice cubes are less classic cube-shaped - slightly elongated and shallower - but the trays fold perfectly together and the slightest twist releases the contents. You may need to add an extra cube or two to compensate for the reduced depth, but for me that trade-off is minimal. ). Unfortunately, many manufacturers have replaced it with BPS or a similar compound, which has proven to be just as harmful, if not worse, than BPA. I don't know or have asked about Rubbermaid's "secret ingredient", but I wanted to emphasize that "BPA-free" does not mean "safe", especially when very young children ingest the contents in any form or form other. If you are concerned about the safety of your plastic containers, I suggest contacting Rubbermaid to clarify what they are using as a substitute for BPA.
