My 15.6 inch laptop sits comfortably on this one with about a half inch of protrusion mainly due to the curvature of the stand. Over time I will install a Mac desktop on it for work. It's about an inch thick and strong. It's made out of some sort of acrylic material, which is what I wanted. For laptop users, I would recommend purchasing a keyboard to attach to your laptop as it is inconvenient to use the keyboard that came with your laptop while sitting on a stand. But I am. Or put a monitor on it to connect to your laptop. A normal, simple Mac keyboard fits underneath, but not with number keys on the side. Any iPad fits easily underneath and can be hidden if desired. Considering I'm going to have a desktop and a laptop, I might get the second one if I get the chance.
