I would recommend watching a few UTube instructions for first timers. Also, be sure to wrap the bamboo rolling sheets in Saran Wrap before rolling. I also coated the sushi bazooka with sesame oil on the insider before loading it. It's eliminates the rice sticking to the inside walls. My first try at making California rolls was very successful. I used the bazooka, then I rolled using the mats with both nori on the inside and outside of the roll. 3 rolls in all. it take some practice to get the roll compact too.
