I received the antenna and base with mine so don't let these reviews put you off. I've just returned to CB radio after 15 years. I used to have a Wilson 1000 but wanted something smaller. This antenna has a thin RG58 coax cable and no detachable PL259 for inserting coax cable into small holes, nor a screw at the base of the antenna. To remove the whip you need to use an Allen key. If you don't know what I'm talking about, the Wilson 1000 has a screw on the PL259 coaxial connector and the pin unscrews from the base and you can put a waterproof connector where it screws on. Ears are pretty good with this antenna but so far I haven't been impressed with the performance. People more than a few miles away don't seem to hear me. I'm sure it has to do with the fact that they run on electricity and I don't, but when I had my Wilson, 1000 people could hear me running 20 miles barefoot and 30 miles with the power on. I'm going to run a 200 watt amp and see how it performs. The Wilson 1000 costs about $10-$15 more and is only 10 inches taller. With the added features and proven performance, I'd take it easy instead. It will also handle more power and have better quality coaxial cable, reducing noise and signal loss.
