Review on πŸ”§ Enhanced Performance Dorman 917-200 VVT Solenoid for Ford / Lincoln / Mercury Models by Dave Rasic

Revainrating 2 out of 5

I've used them on 15 jobs. and later regretted it.

Update: I regret using these magnets. About 15 months after I installed them on the 05 F-150 I had my first breakdown. Luckily, a customer with keen hearing heard the return of the idle tick and was quick to let me know. I've since replaced them on 9 previous repairs I've done. Fortunately, only one had to replace the cam phasers a second time. In general, the failure rate was more than half. I now only replace them with a remanufactured Motorcraft/Ford VVT Solenoid Valve. While they are a new improved design and cheaper than OEM, they do not have the reliability I expect. Original Review: I have used these Dorman VVT Solenoids on about a dozen single cam 2004-2006 Ford 5.4L vehicles. phaser noise. About half the time simply replacing the magneto will solve the problem, and about half the time I still had to replace the cam phaser. When I change the phase shifter, I also change the timing chains, guides and tensioners and do my job completely and correctly. This new design has a larger surface area on the screens to improve oil flow through the solenoid. The original Ford design had small mesh filter openings that were easily clogged with dirt. Revain has the same good price as any other online filter. I stay away from ebay after noticing that the solenoids are presented as new and remanufactured but really just scrap from old designs. These solenoids are modeled after a redesigned Motorcraft part found on '07 and new 5.4 liter Ford engines. I will continue to use these Dorman Solenoids on my repair as I have had great success and have not returned. They are great value and a lot cheaper than the Motorcraft part.
