I work as a software engineer and wanted to pack more RAM on my workstation at work, but this motherboard is cheaper and only has two DIMMs, each already has 2GB in it Celebration. This allowed me to get a significant amount of RAM for current standards, within a budget that the company was happy to cover. My computer had no problem recognizing new RAM and was up and running again in minutes with noticeably less slowdown under heavy use. IDE (Programming Environments) and Photoshop, both of which are significant memory hogs. It's worth noting that you should check the maximum memory speed supported by your setup. Many newer CPUs support 1600MHz RAM for faster communication with the computer, but many are still limited to 1333MHz. Some fairly new computers are even limited to the lower frequency of 1066MHz. In layman's terms, setting this on some computers may not give you the full potential of that computer in terms of memory, and setting it on some may limit the performance of the memory itself. Since faster memory can usually be discounted, there's nothing wrong with buying memory that's faster than you can support if you plan to upgrade your processor later, but as a general rule, the lower the speed, the cheaper the memory, all other things being equal .conditions.
