Vega, bring me back! good for proteins

I stopped using Vega after Clean Label Project harmful report. Upon further research, I found that "research" never really published reports on their methods or their scoring system or the levels of "heavy metals" they claimed were so high in plant proteins. Plant proteins are made from plants and plants. absorb substances from the soil. For example, raw spinach contains 60 micrograms of cadmium, but this trace amount is expected and acceptable in foods, especially foods with minimally processed ingredients. Whey proteins may therefore have few of these ingredients, but are non-vegetable and may be more processed. Vega issued a statement that they were surprised by this report because they test all of their products for these things. The Clean Label Project is also not clear about its funding sources, they say it comes from consumers and grants, but they don't say where those grants come from. Could they possibly be from animal protein companies because they have seen a huge drop in sales as vegan and vegetarian lifestyles and allergies to animal products have increased? Possibly. It wouldn't surprise me at all if that were the case. In short, I return to Vega because both the taste and the quality of the product are excellent! I missed it, especially after realizing I'm lactose intolerant and can't take whey protein. I can't wait to have this staple back in my pantry, and as a consumer, I should definitely do a little more research before auto-accepting the report. I'm usually rather skeptical and didn't pay attention to these red flags that the Clean Label project had, like their language in describing trace amounts of heavy metals, lack of honesty in funding, no reporting of their methodology and not quite saying how they really appreciated the products. I'm back Vega!

Pros
  • No Added Sugar: Vega Protein & Greens is sweetened with Stevia, our favorite no-calorie sweetener. We know stevia isn't for everyone, which is why we also offer our plain, unsweetened (formerly natural) stevia-free flavor
Cons
  • . Very expensive
