EDIT: Yes, the brightness of this light continues to disappoint me. Went out with a friend, they took the Urban 400 and I took this light. The Urban 400 was a lot brighter than this light, leading me to believe it was 200-300 lumens. If you plan on riding the trails in pitch black darkness, it's not safe. get something lighter There's a reason it's so much cheaper than the competition. So my rating has changed from 4 to 2 stars. INITIAL REVIEW: This light is said to have a lumen output of 800 lumens. No, that is not so. That's about the same as my Light & Motion Urban 400, which is about 6 years old. This light is rated at 400 lumens and this light is about the same as this one. But for $20? Oh yes that is good! It attaches very securely to the handlebars, is about 3/4 charged and the build quality is impressive. It's worth mentioning that I use a Salsa Journeyman 700c, which is a gravel bike with fairly thick bars, so you might need to be careful that your bars aren't *too* skinny. There was little power reserve after it was pulled all the way down, so I'd guess it's basically an all-rounder. The outer shell is made of aluminum and I take it to the mountain bike trail with confidence. Barely moves (if at all) when going over deep potholes in the road and I wouldn't worry if this light ever fell off my handlebars. I'm sure everything will be fine. There is a tail light. less impressive. For those who couldn't get it to work initially, it's because there are plastic rings between the batteries to keep them from corroding. Nice touch, if a bit annoying when first taking it out of the box. The body is mostly plastic with some aluminum parts and is very small. It's fairly bright for a taillight, if not half as bright as my Bontrager Flare R. But it's decent for its size. Especially when my new Bontrager costs about three times the entire light replacement. I'm not a fan of CR2032 batteries. They're not as cheap as double or triple A's and not as convenient as rechargeable batteries. I would definitely pay extra for a rechargeable one, although I believe it can be used as a third light along with my Flare R. I'm not sure about the battery life; It has been taken on several trips and has not burned out so far. I assume that with regular daily use they will need to be replaced every week or two. The rear light mount is also anything but perfect. The rubber started tearing as soon as I put it in the box, but it didn't tear after that. Somewhat annoyingly, the mounting holes that extend to the other side of the light are very wide, so you only have about 3 basic positions to hold the light in place, one tighter than the other. None of them fit the thinner parts of my bike. In general? The front light is less bright than advertised, but it makes up for it with great build quality and decent battery life, which is certainly better than my Urban 400. The mount is hard plastic, not the rubber straps, which I like to use; it lasts much longer and is less prone to tearing or tearing. The rear light leaves a lot to be desired in terms of build quality, but it makes up for it with its surprisingly small size. Also, since it runs on battery, I don't have to take it off every night to charge the watch for hours. Does it compare to brands like Light & Motion or Cateye? No not at all. They have better build quality, brighter light and longer lifespan. but it would be wrong to compare them. Not only do both brands sell flashlights for more than double the price of these, they're also hard to find new. For $20? Take this one. It's worth it and I assure you that you won't regret choosing it over the much more expensive Light & Motion or Cateye.
