I bought this to replace an arm I've used for over 15 years and ended up giving it up. He only died due to a manufacturing error that lasted so long that he collapsed. This arm has a similar design but is much slimmer and more stylish. It has more vertical and extended distance, and the friction settings were perfect right out of the box. It looks good and is built to withstand heavy use thanks to the use of aluminum alloy parts. Now for the modification part. My screen is above me when I'm sitting in a chair, so it should be tilted down. A few other reviewers have complained that it tilts just a little bit, which is true. It's right there in the specification. For some unknown reason, they bent a couple of small tabs on the steel part of the hinge so they met the aluminum casting to constrain the tip. It would be easy to grind off the burrs or sand the aluminum with a Dremel tool, but that would scatter metal dust and abrasive powder everywhere and make a mess. Instead, I took a couple of small vises and gripped them deeply. on the tab but not very tight and I squeezed and bent a little to straighten it about 2/3 of the way. Then I tightened the end of the tool exactly at the point of the bend and almost completely straightened it. Finally I took another deep grip to smooth out the metal at the bend. Do this on both sides and in about 10 minutes your screen will shut down and there will be no clutter and nothing to paint. They could have eliminated the production step and created a better design. What were they thinking? I haven't noticed any side effects. It holds the wires better than my other hand and is a third of the price.
