I used to really like this product but my recent experience with a seemingly bad batch has left me with a sour taste in my mouth. With over 30 years of experience in marine and reef aquariums, this was the first time I contacted Instant Ocean to deal with a situation that appeared to be killing my fish and coral. After the water change, the whole aquarium went crazy. The coral shrank and the fish started pacing around the tank, acting like convulsions, scratching and running to the surface. I have had this particular tank for almost five years and the six fish I have have been residents since the beginning. At first I thought it was an anomaly, but the next water change brought the same result. I was horrified as this behavior lasted for hours and was very stressful for the fish. I tested my reverse osmosis water and it had no dissolved chlorine solids (0ppm). The pH was 8.2 and everything seems fine. The only difference was the salt, a new batch purchased from Revain. I went to the store and bought a standard Instant Ocean, changed the water and the fish behaved perfectly, which is what I expected after 30 years in the hobby. I contacted Instant Ocean support and they asked me for the water parameters I provided. Then they said it was a fish disease and googled the symptoms. Wow. just wow. I just asked for a replacement or credit and nothing. So you are basically on your own with this product, there is no support and they will not help you despite thousands of dollars in sales over the years I have used them.
