I just bought an EOS R which uses Canon's new RF mount. I bought the RF 35mm 1.8 but other RF lenses are too expensive at the moment. However, I have a thing for 85 focal lengths. It just has something special. I consider myself an intermediate photographer, so I can't justify buying the RF 85 1.2, although I may buy one in the future. Luckily I bought an EOS R kit with an EF lens adapter so I can use EF lenses with the new RF mount. So I thought why not give EF 85 1.8 a try! I am very happy with the purchase. I'll start with the cons. I would say there is some chromatic aberration when shooting in direct sunlight. This is mostly easy to fix in a post using Lightroom, but thought I'd mention it. Second, the lens is a bit noisy when focusing, but given the size of the glass I'd say that's understandable and definitely worth it given the image quality. On the plus side I would say this lens produces nice and soft bokeh, has good depth of field and amazing colours. African American skin tone in photos can be tricky and some lenses don't capture accurate colors, but this lens does! I've attached some photos I took myself with a tripod and self-timer so they're not the best, but hopefully this gives someone an idea of the types of images you can get with this lens. If you have any questions let me know or you can IG me @seannygreggs. Happy shooting!
