This salt is officially recommended for Bosch dishwashers. We have a Bosch ADA dishwasher that we used these on. Basically what you are doing when the Add Salt screen appears on the dishwasher is you add about a cup of turnover using the funnel that came with the dishwasher. This increases the "alkalinity" or salt content of the dishwasher's softener tank, which is used to keep your dishes clean. For a few bucks less you can get some of the cheaper salts, but since you're using so little of it I highly recommend going with the Finish brand - this company specializes in dishwasher accessories and you can be sure they're a great one quality product. . Some people go as far as buying cheap $1,000 pool salt for their dishwashers, but I'd rather spend a dollar more and get something that gives peace of mind.
