Pentel Wins

Everyone and their sisters make brush lettering and bullet magazines these days. However, the most popular pen set is the Tombow Fudenosuke. They're about ten dollars more than this. Unfortunately, influencers will pick up a product and promote it as a "must have", but there must be alternatives and I don't think a newbie should spend money on products, especially if you don't know anything. Lots of training and some available basics should do the trick. You don't have to buy a whole set of pens to learn to write. That comes later. That is my opinion and always will be. But when it comes to being practiced and ready for a set of brushes, the biggest names in brush writing agree that Tombow "Fudes" - not the only small brush pen (there are the small and the large Tombow Duo Tip - learn from the small!) that sits on top. Fortunately, there are many great videos showing Pentel and Tombow Fudes side by side. And I can say with confidence that while they work about the same, I like these ones more. For me they are superior. They are juicier and generally better than the pen. These things are always preferable, but you can't go wrong as a beginner. I think it's fair to say that at the moment Pentel has taken the top spot along with Tombow and a lot of people prefer Pentel. The only thing to watch out for is that you don't accidentally buy a marker as the packaging is almost identical. Make sure you look for the sign BRUSH, very important and look closely to see if the barrels are shiny. Then you know you have the right pen. There's absolutely no reason to pay ten bucks more for another set. I say this as someone who started out with two packs of Tombow Fudenosuke black hard and soft tip pens just to learn. I also practiced with the big tombow grip once I got the hang of it. I love these Pentels and have a few big Tombows for big projects because they are so much bigger, but when it comes to colored brush lettering I use them. Pentel makes great brush pens and in my opinion they beat Fudes for a lot less! I am a person who thinks very carefully and researches things carefully before making a choice, almost to the point of error, and I'm glad I did and didn't follow the crowd. I liked the black tombow while learning, but this set was the right purchase. Really juicy and very pleasant to use. I also use them in my mixed media. Be a savvy consumer and be careful when delving into something new. Look carefully at all your options and, most importantly, do your research in the area you want to pursue so you have the information you need to make the right choice and spend wisely.
