They're great for stretching, but do your research before doing any body modifications! I am not a professional, I have only 7 years experience in ear stretching. Now, as an indecisive person, I have tightened my ear about 5 times from a normal earring 18-20g to 9/16" which is about 13mm and they have done their job well. Now be aware, that you will need plugs or tunnels. Because the pegs are not decoration, they are tools! Do not wear them everywhere due to uneven weight distribution. Make sure when stretching your ears to heal, like any other piercing between size increases , and don't skip sizes or you'll have a chance to break through!
