Black wax will spread all over the cake.
Okay maybe I should have foreseen this but they melt FAST. We had a white cake and the wax was very thin (like water) and quickly spread over the entire surface of the cake. Even after scraping it off, the cake was all black and seeped inside. Nobody got sick, just very embarrassing. Enough to try something different next time.
