These are lifesavers when you're struggling with a tight tyre/rim combo. Breaking a plastic tire is one of the most annoying things in the world. The bead is thicker than a plastic tire, but I had no problem grabbing the tire's bead. They are narrower than a plastic tire, making them easier to pack in a saddlebag. They aren't that much heavier. The weight is well spent though, knowing you can definitely pull the tire off. They are especially good in winter when the tires are a bit more difficult to remove. I don't think I'll ever buy a plastic tire again.
