A few weeks ago I dosed a new 800 gallon above ground pond with 4 PPM ammonia with ammonium chloride powder for an aquarium to start a fish free cycle. I've added several rounds of nitrifying bacteria and never noticed any change in ammonia levels. The nitrite and nitrate levels are almost zero. Also with large pressure filter, fountain filter and bio filter. I had to adopt an orphaned fish from a neighbor so I wanted to remove the ammonia. I filled a cup with pond water and ran a dressing test to see if my test kit would register a change. After a few drops everything looked fine. I did a 50% water change on the pond but the ammonia was still 4ppm. Then I checked the well water to make sure I wasn't adding water from the spring. It all looked good. I then started adding Prime according to the dosing guide. I didn't even notice a slight change until about half the bottle was gone. It took the rest of the bottle to get to 0.25ppm ammonia. I've been using Prime for many years, but this version seemed like a real failure.
