Description of Optimal Pond Water Conditioner - Seachem Pond Prime

CONDITIONER: Seachem Pond Prime is a complete conditioner that works to provide essential ions and stimulates natural slime coat in any pond. REMOVER: Use 1/8 cup (2 tablespoons) of Seachem Pond Prime for each 600-700 US gallons to successfully remove chlorine or chloramine from your fish’s environment. DETOXIFIER: Seachem Pond Prime will detoxify any ammonia or nitrite produced by fish that live in your pond. To detoxify high concentrations of ammonia or nitrite, use 1/4 to 1/2 cup for each 600 gallons. USE: If you are setting up a new pond, adding, or changing water, then Seachem Pond Prime should be the first choice conditioner to create and control a safe pond environment. SAFETY: To detoxify nitrite in an emergency, up to 5 times the normal dose of Seachem Pond Prime may be used. If the water temperature is > 30 °C (86 °F) and chlorine or ammonia levels are low, use a half dose.

I'm glad I found this: Aquarium Water Purifier

God I'm glad I found this. I love my small ornamental pond and waterfall, but between evaporation, splashes from the waterfall, and possibly (probably) a leak somewhere behind the waterfall, I filled the pond with a large amount of water twice a day. That meant using a lot of dechlorinator and the first one I bought was really expensive. It's a lot cheaper and does a great job. It also purifies the water!

Pros
  • Sturdy Construction
Cons
  • Big and Bulky

Works great in the aquarium

I don't have a pond - I have a 75 gallon tank. I used the regular Prime for water treatment when refilling and changing water. This material is *identical* in terms of skills, but twice as focused. 1ml of this product treats 20 gallons of water, rather than 1ml per 10 gallons of a regular Prime tank. Great price, great product, nice to be able to buy it in a larger size than the 500ml prime aquarium.

Same as Prime. NOT twice as concentrated.

I use Prime all the time on my tanks and I love it. Mostly concentrated prime, right? Use 2 times less per volume than stated, right? nope! This is the same as Prime which is designed for use in the pond. They believe that since your pond has more surface area to outgas, you don't need to use as much product to get the same dechlorination benefits. Most likely yes, but then you are not using it according to the label directions in an indoor aquarium! Search the Seachem forums and you will find…

Pond Prime is NOT more concentrated than regular Prime

I thought Pond Prime was a concentrated version of Prime but it appears to be the same product. I emailed Seachem customer service and got the following: Pond Prime and Prime are the same product but the dosage is different because in an open system like a pond chlorine gas is removed from the surface so you don't see the water need to dechlorinate. the same amount of water as indoors. You can use Pond Prime in your home aquarium but use the Prime dosage recommendations at [.] I thought I would

UNMARKED BOTTLE for fish and aquatic animals

I used to use Pond Prime but the current online retailer I use [WWG] doesn't offer it. Pond Prime has the benefit of 'neutralizing' ammonia and removing chlorine and chloramine from tap water. I get ammonia spikes when my koi spawn, so instead of looking for a second one to solve my ammonia problem, I searched the internet for another source of Pond Prime to use a water treatment product. Went with the cheapest seller and when the item arrived the front tag was missing. Oh oh! It is a fake…

A MUST HAVE basic element for fish ponds!

This product has been a lifesaver (literally!) for my pond. It quickly removes chlorine, chloramine and neutralizes both ammonia and nitrite without affecting pH. A little goes a long way - just shake well before use. I always keep in stock. I've had several pump/filter failures over the years (usually when I'm out of town - find out!). This product can be used for chemical water treatment without a working filter system. It has literally saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars by keeping

Only works at high dosages

A few weeks ago I dosed a new 800 gallon above ground pond with 4 PPM ammonia with ammonium chloride powder for an aquarium to start a fish free cycle. I've added several rounds of nitrifying bacteria and never noticed any change in ammonia levels. The nitrite and nitrate levels are almost zero. Also with large pressure filter, fountain filter and bio filter. I had to adopt an orphaned fish from a neighbor so I wanted to remove the ammonia. I filled a cup with pond water and ran a dressing test

Pros
  • GOLS Certified
Cons
  • Expensive

This is a good product and for the amount of water it is designed to purify the price is good. One problem, it can double (or more) the amount stated on the bottle. I used a little more than recommended, about 5% more, and thought I had it covered. My fish continued to be stressed and some of them eventually died of unknown causes after months of battling an unknown problem that didn't appear to be a known disease. Problem? There is a lot of chlorine in the water. I found (after purchasing a…
