Review on Enhance Your Smart Home with the Meross Smart Plug HomeKit Pack by Allan Lambert

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great so far (some tips on HomeKit problems in the test)

The pairing process was a bit stupid (easier just plug in the sockets and then connect to the ad hoc WiFi network from the device before you do something else). I now have these devices that work 100% reliably with both HomeKit and the Meross app. The low price, relatively compact size, and (now that they work) instant response via HomeKit make them a winner in my opinion. HomeKit problem and solution: Everything worked fine via the Meross app, but HomeKit status and control was very patchy. That might work for a few minutes, then the socket would randomly report "no answer" via HomeKit. After a bit of research and fiddling, I found that my network wasn't working well with the low-level communications that Apple uses for HomeKit. In general: - Your Wi-Fi access points should pass multicast DNS (mDNS) between 2.4g and 5g networks - Your wired network should pass mDNS between Wi-Fi devices and any wired devices you use with HomeKit ( e.g. AppleTV ), forward. - If you have an extended home network with separate VLANs for IoT devices like these sockets, you need a "multicast reflector" to forward multicast traffic from the IoT VLAN to the VLAN where your mobile devices are located (e.g. B. your iPhone/iPad/AppleTV). This can be as simple as checking a box in a router/switch, or it can be a very long journey. Depending on how complex your home network is, everything will "just work without any hassle", "require a WiFi access point or router" or "not work at all". In my case, I had to go into my UniFi controller and select "Enable Multicast Enhancement (IGMPv3)" under "Wireless Settings" > "Advanced Settings". After adding this setting to my UniFi hotspots, HomeKit worked great with all my iPhones and these outlets. Update: I also had to disable "Airtime Fairness" in my UniFi 2.4g radio's settings.
