The magnet is not strong enough to keep the washing machine door closed. I even contacted LG directly who sent a free replacement part but the same scenario is too weak to keep the door closed. In the end I pulled the magnet out of the broken piston and put it in the new piston. It worked! I had to cut out a small bar in the middle so it would sit low enough to use the spring. But now he's holding the door shut - still weak, but before that he wasn't holding at all. Also, for those of you who already have it installed, you can remove it without damage by removing the gray ring around the inside of the door. There are about 10 screws holding the ring in place. Attention, the window will be detached/moved away from the door. But once you've removed the gray ring, you can push the two pins on the back of the piston that way.
