Solid product and BIOS have been updated.

Paul (review below) did such a great job I have little to add. First of all, I would like to add that my initial experience with this DVD burner exceeded my expectations. The Nero software they provide is excellent; The DVD recorder is a joy to use. And FAST too. I would like to point out that Sony has two BIOS updates that increase the DVD-R burning speed from 8x to 12x. There are other achievements too. And updating the BIOS is so easy. (.) There are two updates. An update (says it's for the 710A, but the DRX-710UL has a 710A inside so it's applicable here) updates media compatibility and improves write speeds. This update is called 710A_BYX2.EXE. The second update is for users connecting to a computer using a USB cable. This update is called FWUPDATE.EXE and fixes some USB communication problems of WinXP SP2. I have now completed both updates on my recorder. I first ran FWUPDATE.EXE, rebooted and then when all USB interface issues were up to date I ran 710A_BYX2.EXE. You should eventually get a "Request" message, followed by an "Update completed successfully" message and a prompt to restart. After rebooting after updating 710A_ByX2.EXE, WinXP saw my DVD burner as a new device again. , it's pretty smooth. But of course, after printing, proceed at your own risk and carefully follow the instructions provided (on the website) for each BIOS. I also burned Fuji (Taiyo Yuden) 8x DVD +R and -R. like a ProDisc 8X DVD-R and it couldn't be simpler.
