Changing the coffee brand made a difference

First, we have been using the Thermo coffee maker for many years. This is the only option if you want your coffee to stay drinkable for a while. Old Hamilton Beach was dead so we needed a new one. I doubted it because of all the reviews complaining about weak coffee. But given the price, we decided to give it a try. I'm glad we did! Got this coffee maker 10 days ago. Spilled two pots of clear water. No leaks, no plastic smell, no hassles. He brewed a coffee pot. Oh, the taste is very faint - runny and watery. The second pot was no better. I used the recommended amount of coffee. (We buy standard brands of pre-ground canned coffee.) I've tried increasing it by a third (from 7.5 tbsp to 10 tbsp). Not that thin, but not "good coffee" either. I've been using it for years, no longer says it's Colombian. So I bought a can of 100% Colombian coffee. Much better! You know that commercial about going blind to household smells? Perhaps we have become "taste blind” to our morning coffee. We now use our grocery store's own brand 100% Colombian coffee, use the same amount we always have and enjoy a good cup of coffee. So if you have weak coffee, maybe just try a different coffee. By the way, we don't use a "water filter disk" since we use filtered water from our fridge. Pros of this coffee maker: The detachable water tank means it's easy to keep and MUCH cleaner. Just rinse in the sink. A gasket between the drip point and carafe lid is an ingenious way to keep warm. I hope it lasts a long time because I think that's the key to keeping the coffee hot.- Depending on how much coffee is in the pot, it can stay hot for several hours. Actually, I poured a cup in the middle of the day and it was still hot. Cons of this coffee maker: - It WILL produce a significant amount of steam when brewing. Steam exits from the vents in the upper right (when facing forward) upper rear corner. I tried it under my tall cabinets and the bottom of the cabinet was very damp as was the front edge. I moved it to where there is no overhead cabinet. I just put it back under the cupboard after it finishes cooking. Note: My cabinets are 15-3/4" taller than the counter and I would still have to pull them out to fill the water tank. The water tank doesn't fit in the water dispenser on my fridge door. (Samsung RF267) so I still need the jug fill and then fill the reservoir from the jug, I was hoping to eliminate this step.- The decanter has a narrow neck so you will need a brush to easily clean the inside.
