I have this located behind a bed headboard, so there's no direct line of sight. That's where the outlet is. I find clapping loudly to be very hit and miss. Either you clap too slowly, too fast, or maybe a clap is missed by the thing. Anyway I find I have to do it multiple times though I'm getting better with practice.Ironically it works best when I'm in bed and want to turn off the lights. I knock twice on my headboard and off go the lights. That works every time and is the main reason I got this so I can't fault the product too much.I wouldn't recommend this thing for larger rooms. Smart plugs are probably the way to go in that case. But for a bedroom to turn off nightstand lights, it's not bad and as other reviewers have confirmed, you can tap furniture to make it go.You can also set it to 2 or 3 claps, so theoretically you could have 2 of these in a single room controlling different lights. Though in practice I don't know how well that would work.
