This is the best way to convert signals from Direct TV into something my old Macintosh can create a high definition BluRay with. The older unit I have had for years grew increasingly intermittent before it totally quit working last week. Since nobody sells parts to fix broken devices these days and a new one was cheap, I simply ordered another one.The fault ultimately was found to be the little USB 5 volt power converter power cable, that supplied 5 volts to the electronic module which caused the new converter box to show the same intermittent problems the original unit had before it failed. Replacing the power cable did not alter the symptoms and finally replacing the actual 5 volt USB power adapter fixed everything. To have some confidence in the final parts swap that had fixed the problem, I put the original USB power cable back and found the original problem had returned. After replacing the 5 volt USB power cable everything was good again. Because I needed to get everything up and running quickly I had started replacing the original parts with the new parts and later found that the original USB power cable caused the original converter module to fail to operate from the unstable power coming from the USB power adapter and the damage to the electronics within the power adapter that was also caused by the USB cable.I have done this additional study of the failure to determine the how to find where the failure started and to better understand how the defective cable caused the other parts to fail so that in the future if I see the same early unstable operation I can just replace the USB power cable before any additional expensive parts get damaged.
