Review on πŸ“‘ Tram 1410 Broadband Discone Base Antenna for Scanners by Bobby Frazier

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Totally impressed with this little antenna

Tram makes two disco cones. The 1411 has a whip and two longer radials, while the 1410 has no whip and all radials are the same size. what do you choose Judging by the photo I have both. I chose 1410 over 1411 because it doesn't have a pin that would detune the antenna above it due to overlap. I use it with a Uniden SDS100 scanner and capture airport AM traffic, my local trunked transit system, APCO's 700MHz trunked network for law enforcement, and the UHF/VHF trunked network for emergency response. I've also used it to transmit on 2m and 70cm. The antenna compares favorably to other analogues, which makes it even more impressive. My 1411 is on the opposite side of the house and is being used to transmit from an HT ham radio. Why on the opposite side of the house? There are times when I need to either use my walkie-talkies as a repeater or transmit on two nearby frequencies at the same time. A stylus on the disc gives a much better SWR than no stylus, so I use one with a stylus for transmission and one without a stylus for my scanner. So you got it. Two excellent antennas, each for their own use. This antenna mounts with set screws to the top of a 1-1.5 inch diameter mast with a cable run through the center of the mast. With little weight or wind resistance, I decided to mount it to the side of my existing mast about a meter below my Diamond 2M antenna, using the Winegard DS-2000 22" universal tower mount with a 5ft mast half in inserted the mast. Winegard and attached with a rubber installation adapter wrapped in lengths of 30 mil Proxicast Pro-grade heavy-duty self-adhesive silicone tape.

Pros
  • 25/1300MHz broadband reception
Cons
  • Doubtful
